Canadian Characters and Romance

I love to read a clean, slow-burn romance story with a happy ending and characters I love. And, a setting I can relate to, instead of 19th-century England, is a wonderful bonus for me. However, nothing excites me more than a story based in the beautiful Canadian landscape. Not needing much in the way of scandal, and exes who show up at the wrong time, I'm more of a purist, just eagerly turning the next page to learn more about the characters and their relationship. But I do want details so the characters and their lives feel very real - more than just falling in love. Not finding a large selection of these novels, I finally decided to write my own book. Which turned into books.

I discovered that I absolutely love writing. And being content to curl up with my laptop and imaginary friends, I have found my passion. Having written three with a fourth plot looming, I'm working hard through revising and editing to make these available to you. It's a long journey but an interesting one, leading me to discover that writing is the easy part. My first two novels are now released, and you, too, can enjoy falling in love in Canada.

My journey took me to Instagram where I finally discovered an entire selection of clean romance  RomCom novels as well as their passionate readers. It's been a wonderful treat to fill up my tablet with books to read and devour them when I have a few spare minutes. Though, I have to say that there is still something different about the books I write. My plots revolve around a romantic relationship, but involves much more than that. And the near-perfect main characters makes many of these other books feel,,, very similar after a while. So, my novels do not perfectly fit with the typical sweet and clean romance book, because they contain much more than that. Romance readers find my books to be more of a life story. However, I feel that people reading women's fiction aren't always expecting to have the main plot about falling in love. So, is it ok if I call it romantic fiction?

I am working on a series of four books. They are each a stand-alone, but contain overlapping characters and all take place during the same year. I've named the series Finding Home. Enjoy the journey of four women (three of which are sisters) as each finds their true place of belonging, as well as love and happily ever after.

Since I'm writing in Canada and setting my novels there, it seemed fair to have some indigenous characters as well. That idea took hold, and now my first two books have my leading ladies falling hard for Haida men and in my third, for an Inuk.

What Am I Writing?

The Strong and Steady Waves is my debut novel and follows Addy across the majestic Canadian landscape to find herself, and of course, true love. It takes place off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador as with scenes from northwestern B.C. and Toronto. This book is light and fun with quirky characters. Now available at many of your favourite online bookstores. (More info on the My Books page)

After I Woke follows the first three weeks after Snow wakes from a coma to find the last seven years of her memories have been erased. It is set in beautiful Haida Gwaii with a scene from Prince George. Now available on Amazon. (More info on the My Books page)

Too Far North is set in northern Canada, and is basically finished its editing. I am (still) waiting on my cover illustration. But I am hoping to release it this year.

Before I finish the last novel of the series, I'm working on a sci-fi novel for my son. A challenge is good. It should keep me fresh. (But Hale's story must be told. Catch the first chapter at the end of Too Far North.)
